The Afternoons with Amos PODCAST for Monday, July 11, 2015.  (Commentary On Chase Closing At The 1:18:25 Mark on PODCAST Media Player. Interview With Caller Revealing the Chase Meadows Branch Closing At 1:25:09 Mark). Just as the first news that Chase Bank was closing two branches in the African-American community was learned from an Afternoons with Amos caller, another caller dropped a more serious bomb on Chase and the community.  According to a caller and confirmed from another source, it seems Chase has plans to close their branch in the Meadows neighborhood. “Darryl”, a listener, dropped that bomb recounting a conversation he’d had today with employees at Chase’s Meadows branch saying their would close this Fall.  If correct, that means that Chase would be closing three branches in Black-majority Indianapolis’ neighborhoods.   Afternoons with Amos, which was planning a more extensive story for Wednesday of this week about how Chase serves low and moderate income Indianapolis neighborhoods, had discovered that of fifty-three Chase branches in Indianapolis/Marion County, only nine are located in Black-majority areas (as measured by Census Tracts).  If Chase, which is closing the 38th & Washington Blvd branch July 30th and the location at 29th/30th & MLK on August 20th, if they add the Meadows branch to that, fully one-third of the Chase banks in Black-majority neighborhoods would be closing. A strong signal that Chase isn’t interested in serving Black-majority areas of the city/county.
